John Lennard was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. Fluently bilingual, he attended Laurentian University in Sudbury, graduating with an Honours B.Comm in Accounting and International Business in 2007.
Inspired, like so many young Canadians, by Pierre Trudeau's vision of an open, tolerant and inclusive Canada, John joined the Liberal Party of Canada when he was 14 years old. For over eight years, he's been a loyal party volunteer - knocking on doors, making phone calls, crunching numbers, banging in signs In fact, on his 19th birthday, right after the 2004 federal election was called, John spent the night putting up lawn signs instead of heading out to party with his friends. Talk about dedication: He LITERALLY painted the town red!
John has been active in local Liberal politics, having served on the executive boards of the Sudbury Federal and Sudbury Provincial Liberal Associations for six years. He has also been involved in the Ontario Young Liberals as an executive member of the Laurentian University Young Liberals, as an area coordinator for the OYL, and as a member of the OYL policy committee. More recently, he has taken on roles of increased responsibility: In 2006, he was the Northern Ontario campaign coordinator for the Bob Rae leadership campaign, and in 2007, he successfully managed Louise Portelance's bid for the federal Liberal nomination in Nickel Belt.
John is currently pursuing two law degrees at McGill University in Montreal. He has kept up his Party involvement in Quebec, most notably as a volunteer in three recent by-elections in Montreal.
